How “Diner en Blanc” Works
Eleanor Parker, owner of EPIC NETWORK INC. saw an opportunity in London, On. to throw the first ever exclusive all-white dining experience, which is known internationally as the “Diner en Blanc,” or in the case of London, On. “London In White!”
It’s quiet the adventure and reminded me a little bit of 1920’s prohibition with guests only be provided with the date, time, and resources to purchase their event tickets, all while not having a clue to where they may end up dining. But, this is what make London In White an original and not to be missed event! Especially after the kick off to this annual event was held at the stunning Plunkett Estate.
How It Works!!
At the last minute, the secret location is revealed to thousands of friends who have all been patiently waiting to learn where “Dîner en Blanc” will take place. Thousands of people, dressed all in white, and conducting themselves with the greatest decorum, elegance, and etiquette, all meet for a mass “chic picnic” in a public space.
Over the course of the evening, guests experience the beauty and value of their city’s public spaces by participating in the unexpected. Beyond the spectacle and elegance of the dinner itself, guests are brought together from diverse backgrounds by good taste and a love of beauty. Le Dîner en Blanc recalls the elegance and glamor of high French society, and guests engage one another, knowing that they are taking part in a truly magical event. There are no disruptions: no car traffic, no pedestrian traffic—only amazed and astonished looks from passersby observing the scene before them. And participants, like spectators, wonder whether it’s all not a dream…
What originated in 1988, in Paris France, and known as “Diner en Blanc Paris,” London Ontario hosted their first “London In White Event” last August 10, 2016, at the beautiful Plunkett Estate! It was the first of many spectacular “London In White” POPUP EXCLUSIVE DINING EXPERIENCE TO COME!
It was an elegant affair to remember, ladies adorned exquisite fascinators, beautiful vintage hats, and place settings that would have made Emily Post proud! It was an affair that you would actually want to remember, and join again the following year!
A little Event History
The Paris Diner en Blanc, or as we call it “The White Party,” which is a secret dinner party that descends upon a different and very public location each year.
In France the beautiful venues have included: The Arc de Triomphe, Concorde, The Invalid’s…
“It’s so secret in fact, that even those connected by blood to the organizers do not know.”
The location is announced upon boarding pre-arranged buses that take the invitees to the dinner spot. Everyone must wear white, bring dinner in a picnic basket, chairs, table and champagne. You exchange food and dates (temporarily) with those around you.
From those interested in the history in 1988, the first official Dîner en Blanc took place in the Parc de Bagatelle in the Bois de Boulogne, started by a man named François Pasquier, who invited a few friends to the Bois de Boulogne one day in June on his return to France after being abroad. To find each other in the park, they all wore white. The dinner was such a success that they decided the next year, each person would invite some other friends and the event grew organically into the 10000+ dinner it is today.
It was a night filled with beautiful people, incredible food provided by Chef DTV, lovely boutiques brought to us by the LoveLeigh Boutique, and just an amazing group of individuals who came together to celebrate life and love.
